• 2020 Best Small Cellar Door

Gourmet’s Wine Traveller magazine’s April/May issue lists Australian award winners for the best cellar doors. We are proud to have been announced as the Best Small Cellar Door in the Swan Valley.

Unfortunately during the current situation we find ourselves in, we aren’t able to be open for those who perhaps haven’t visited us in the past. We hope that in the coming months, as we return to normal, we can welcome you to visit us.

At almost 100 years old, our focus is on producing quality boutique wines to be enjoyed now, or with carefully cellaring, for drinking in a few years. We are a small family winery which means when you visit you will be greeted by a family member. The winery entrance is covered with a lovely vine trellis, which includes a vine planted in 1929. The wine tastings, which will hopefully be back up and running before the end of the year, are carried out in our below ground cellar, hand dug more than 90 years ago.

In the meantime, please browse online our selection of wines. We are offering free delivery to the Perth metro area for orders of six bottles or more. We are happy for you to call by for contactless collection by simply phoning through and paying for your order for collection at a pre-determined time.

We look forward to welcoming you when self-isolation is over. Until then stay safe and Stay Home.

  • 2020 Vintage Report

Vintage started around two weeks earlier than usual here in the Swan and first to come off the vines was our Verdelho. Beautiful fruit flavour, good natural acidity and delicate mouthfeel. All excellent characters of the years wine. Chardonnay was next harvested with similar characters on offer and presented lots of flavour and finesse. Our Chenin was picked soon after and the sometimes present bunch-rot was barely evident in 2020. The finished wine shows true character and some nice green apple and stonefruit notes at this stage.

The white wines are all now sitting in stainless steel tanks on very fine yeast lees with sulphur levels all settled. The wines will now sit for a couple of months to slowly settle naturally and we will continue to monitor the sulphur levels in these tanks.

We have made some beautiful reds to compliment the white wine range. First was our Swan Malbec which was harvested in early February. After a five day fermentation with the skins, our reds are pressed off into stainless steel tanks and the remainder of fermentation is completed. Malolactic fermentation is underway at this stage also.

The reds will remain in stainless tanks until they are settled, sulphured and racked off, ready for oak. At this stage July is likely to be when we will put this years reds into our French oak barrels, generally for a 12 month maturation period. ‌Our second parcel of red was our Petit Verdot. Again I’m very happy with the fruit quality and the resulting wine shows typical floral notes, spice and also the hallmark rich intense colour.

Moving south to Manjimup, we have also harvested a beautiful parcel of Pinot Noir. The finished wine shows lovely cherry hints, delicate tannin structure and a wonderful length of flavour. A combination of clones are used in the vineyard and we think this years Pinot is as good as we have seen.

So whilst things are a bit quiet now post vintage we have a chance to catch up on some jobs around the winery and reflect over the hard work that has been put in since October last year.

  • 2014 Bottle Aged Chenin Blanc

Late last year the 2019 Singapore Airlines Swan Valley Wine Show was held with expert wine judges tasting in excess of 200 wines.

We were extremely proud to have received three awards for our 2014 Bottle Aged Chenin Blanc. Best White Wine or Blend, Best Swan Valley White or Red Table Wine and the prestigious Singapore Airlines Premium Trophy for Best Table Wine of Show.

We are still carefully cellaring this vintage for a later release to the public. We do however, currently have available the 2013 vintage for sale which received the Alan Dineen Memorial Trophy at the previous years wine show. This trophy is awarded by the Chairman of Judges for what they consider to be a wine that best identifies with the Swan Valley.

If you would like to purchase the 2013 Bottle Aged Chenin, please go to our order form page.

  • 2019 Vintage

In the Swan Valley the 2018 vintage proved interesting this year, in our opinion one of the most favourable summers for a long time.

    Swan Valley Vineyard

Relatively cool conditions in the Swan Valley meant even ripening for all varieties and we expect both the reds and whites to be exceptional this year.

The white wines show exceptional varietal character and shape as some of the best we have produced. We are particularly excited about the Autumn Harvest Semillon – Verdelho which looks outstanding.

Swan Malbec and Petit Verdot are also looking really good and should develop into great examples once we mature them in oak barrels.

  • Love your Local at Must Winebar

  • 1979 Pedro Ximenez Released

We have a final special release wine for 2018, our 1979 Pedro Ximenez. Made from grapes grown in the Swan Valley, this limited and rare wine has spent the last 40 years slowly ageing and maturing in a single barrel.

This full bodied rich liqueur style wine is best enjoyed after a meal. Bottled and labeled ready for sale today, the 375ml bottle is available only from the cellar door for $175. This is the only release of this variety and will not be made again.

  • Wine Show Results

The annual Singapore Airlines Swan Valley Wine Show was recently held in which we entered several wines.  We are pleased to have received Gold medals for our 2012 bottle aged Chenin Blanc and  the 2013 bottle aged Chenin Blanc. We also received silver medals for our 2016 Swan Valley Chardonnay and 2017 Verdelho.

The awards dinner was held on Friday 24th August where we were extremely proud and happy to be presented with the Alan Dinneen Memorial trophy for the 2013 Chenin Blanc.

The trophy is named in honour of Alan,  a stalwart of the Swan and the trophy  is awarded by the Chief Judge at the show for the wine of their choice that they believe is a standout at the show, exhibiting a style, complexity, vibrancy and quality that makes a statement and most represents the Swan Valley region.

One week later judging was held at the Perth Royal Wine Show where our 2012 Chenin Blanc received a Silver Medal and bronze for the 2013 Chenin Blanc and 2016 Petit Verdot.  The 2012 Chenin will be released in early October.

It is always pleasing to receive industry acknowledgement for the hard work carried out in the vineyard and winery.
